CNN —Mexican authorities said Sunday that three bodies found in the state of Baja California earlier this week had been murdered and are “most likely” those of three missing surfers from the US and Australia. “It’s most likely that the three bodies are those of the three surfers, but the family is still going through the identification process,” Andrade said. She added that the three bodies had been determined as having been murdered but had not yet been formally identified. Family members of the surfers arrived in Tijuana on Saturday and would examine the corpses on Sunday afternoon, Andrade said. A local police source told CNN that authorities also found the men’s pickup truck, burned out, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) from where the bodies were found.

CNN —A bus crash in the Mexican state of Oaxaca killed 18 people on Friday, according to local authorities, who say most of the passengers were migrants. Three children and two women are among the victims, all of whom are from Venezuela and Haiti, the Oaxaca state attorney general said. Pictures posted by authorities on Facebook show the large bus flipped over and heavily damaged on a curve of the mountainous Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan highway. Venezuela and Haiti are sources of large numbers of migrants traveling northward, fleeing insecurity and economic crisis at home. US and Mexican officials have struggled to respond to the arrivals, with Washington putting increasing pressure on Mexico City to shoulder more responsibility for people crossing its territory.

CNN —Human remains found in 45 bags discovered in a suburb of Guadalajara belong to call center workers who went missing in May, Mexican authorities have confirmed. The Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences (IJCF) said Tuesday its tests had confirmed the remains belonged to the missing workers and said the next of kin had been informed. However, it did not specify whether remains from all seven of the missing workers were in the bags. The seven workers disappeared from the metropolitan area of Guadalajara sometime after May 20. Mexico has been troubled by an epidemic of disappearances with more than 100,000 Mexicans and migrants still missing.
